I am currently studying for a Master of Education by coursework at Edith Cowan University, Faculty of Regional Professional Studies. I have been a teacher of Business and Interactive Media for ten years and have a background in economics and banking (though I’ve not used it for that long that I doubt I can actually remember much of it!).

After taking a year’s leave without pay to look after my young daughter, while my wife returned to her English teaching job, I recently resigned from the Department of Education. I now enjoy the flexibility of relief teaching, pursuing my study and exploring the rapid developments in the field of Educational Technology, and of course having time with my daughter as she grows up.

I have become strongly involved with webcasting through the guys at Worldbridges and now present a monthly webcast of my own, web2learn. I am also supporting Paul Reid with a new webcast, Digital Chalkie, talking about the application of ICT’s in education on a fortnightly basis. I also offer professional development for schools and teachers wanting to learn more about the educational application of internet technologies like blogging and podcasting. Finally I have also recently taken a committee role in the Educational and Computing Association of WA (ECAWA). One of my personal interests is to support the networking of teachers interested in using technology in the classroom, and those who are doing so that are teaching in rural and remote regions.

Sometimes it can be difficult juggling all of the above, as well as playing field hockey as a goalkeeper. I do enjoy challenging myself to achieve academically. My inspirations are my 91 year-old grandmother, who completed her BA when she was 75 years old (graduating before most of her grandchildren!), and my wife’s uncle, who is now the Dean of Education at Southern Oregon University, after having started out as a primary school teacher in a regional West Australian school.
