Mapping :: Weblog :: Wikimapia

August 05, 2006

Imagine students describing their own neighborhoods by adding places "interesting to everyone" and facts that are important to everyone. It would be interesting to compare the experience of writing on this wiki with the more personal virtual tours that I've suggested could be done with quickmaps.

Even though a student would be writing for everyone and with everone, he/she could save a section of the map to a blog... or at least link to that section. Look here to find my school, East Side Community High School, for example.

  1. Yes, the wikimapia is very easy to read. I am wondering..can both programs be worked on jointly? I went to quickmaps and did not see a place to set up a collaboration..for example each student can put their flag on quickmap..then on Wikimapia each student can add their information on where they live. It is an excellent idea. To try it out, we need to create a map to test as you suggested in your previous post.

  2. I have been using 43 places with my students. They enjoy it a lot because they can not only write about the places they have been to and give tips to other tourists but also read about places they would like to visit. 43Places works together with 43Things. You can add photos from Flickr and integrate your blog.
