Join me on the Palisades for another running vlog. In this one I reflect on my week that was filled with report cards, family conferences, and worries from my colleagues and my principal about how many of my students didn't pass. How do you assess blogs?

  1. Whether it's "elective" or studio vs "academic" - that's a challenge we all face. On top of that, this semester my class meets three days a week, W, Th, Fri so either there's no time between meetings to think and work or the time is so long, the train of thought is lost between Math and History and English homework. Last week, I started to give out a weekly schedule that outlines what will happen in class every day and what is expected to be done for the next Wednesday. This way, there is always Friday to the next Wednesday for homework so I don't feel that the person who has Science tutoring Thurs aft and no Internet connection at home is at a disadvantage. Of course, the daily expectations also have to allow for the scaffolding for those who are struggling and those who are way ahead. This is a lot of planning but so far, it is helping me feel calmer and clearer about my own expectations for myself too. The tutoring isn't rolling along yet, but we're trying. I wish I had known to do this from week 1 - but better late than never. I hope it works. I'm starting to get a few emails during the week from students. I've also made it clear that anyone who makes an appt to work with me or a tutor in the class and gets the work done, gets an A. I've had a few nibbles for that. For the most part, anyone who makes the effort, does end up with A work so it's a win win situation. Let's hope that there will be enough pieces to at least see the image- if not complete the puzzle!
